Devakant
he began studying Western classical music at age 7 (trumpet, flute, piano, and violin). In California he studied composition and Indian music. In 1978 he went to India for the first time and studied with a teacher of classical Indian vocal music. He went on travelling to India for a period of 15 years and he lived there for more than 7 years, studying bamboo flute (Bansuri) in Bombay with the world-renowned maestro of Indian Flute, Hariprasad Chaurasia. He learned to play the Sarangi and Rudra Veena, two little known but deeply evocative instruments of Ancient India.
He studied and performed also other instruments: bass flute, viola, electric violin, Celtic harp, kyotaku, koto, zither, Tibetan trumpet, Taiko drum, shakuhachi, sho, zamponas, kalymba, duduk and singing bowls. From masters he learned both music and meditation.
He lived many years with Osho and was personally instructed by him in the art of playing meditative music. Through his meditation practice he found a deeper kind of music, based on silence. He travelled and lived many years in Japan, studying in Buddhist temples and Zen monasteries, also travelling in the Himalayas in Tibetan monasteries and Central and South American sacred archaeological sites, gathering the seeds which would have flowered into his own musical compositions.
He later expanded his creativity through other dimensions, both in visual and plastic arts. In 1986 he began studying Western Art in Florence, Italy, and Eastern Sculpture in Japan, India, Nepal and Thailand. He received training of calligraphy and of the ancient art of monochrome ink-painting from Koku Nishimura in Japan and from monks in India he studied Tibetan Thangka painting in the Himalayas. He studied sculpture in marbles and terracotta and bronze casting techniques under the guidance of Emilio Ambron, in Siena and Pietrasanta, Italy. He realized big Buddha statues for meditation centers and public parks in India, two marble statues permanently displayed in a temple in Nara, Japan, large in situ sculptures in meditation centers in Italy and Chile and created an outdoor marble temple in Andalusia, Spain.
He also creates sculptures in alabaster, clay, wood, resin and cement. Also, he makes paintings in oil and acrylic on canvas and drawings in carbon on paper, some of which are used as covers of his albums. His musical pieces instill a profound reverence and invoke communion with nature, particularly in honor of Mother Earth, and representations of the forces of nature embodied as deities
Devakant is currently living in the Andes where he is creating a large sculpture park and composing and recording his new music. Up to now he has published 21 solo albums, hundreds of compositions and numerous works of art. He exhibits his artworks in Europe and South America. He makes meditative concerts, events, workshops and gives individual sessions.
